Now, row over Gen Singh’s speed post

JAMMU, Jan 18: Even as Legislative Council Chairman Amrit Malhotra had ordered an inquiry into refusal of one of the Council officials to accept the letter of former Army chief Gen VK Singh on January 9, another row has cropped up over delivery of the General’s speed post letter after eight days.
Normally, a speed post from Gurgaon in Haryana to Jammu would have taken a maximum of three days.
Gen Singh’s representative had on January 9 given No. under which the former Army chief had sent his version on alleged pay-offs to Jammu and Kashmir Minister via speed post on January 8.
“The letter should have been delivered here on January 10. However, the Legislative Council staff claimed that the letter was delivered to them on January 16,” official sources said.
Mr Malhotra had ordered an inquiry on January 10 following claims by a representative of the former Army chief that a Council official had refused to accept the letter on January 9-the day when the Legislative Council Privilege Committee headed by Congress leader Jugal Kishore Sharma, former Minister had summoned Gen Singh.
The Privilege Committee had issued the summons in response to a privilege motion moved against Gen Singh by three NC leaders including Devender Singh Rana, Ajay Sadhotra and Khalid Najib Suhrawardhy.
