JAMMU, Jan 16: Taking a cue from the model adopted by Aam Aadmi Party for wooing voters, the Awami National Conference today announced to launch a vigorous campaign against corruption and VIP culture in Jammu and Kashmir where Assembly elections are approaching nearer.
“The party leadership is giving final touches to the programme being launched in all three regions of the State for providing a local political alternative to the people of J&K who are yearning for change,” said ANC vice-president Muzaffar Shah while talking to media persons at the party headquarters, here today.
Formal announcement for launching this campaign will be made later this month during a function for release of the book on life and services of late G M Shah, former Chief Minister of J&K and ANC founder, he added.
Besides, Mr Shah said, the party will expose the prevailing nexus between land mafia, bureaucrats and politicians in Jammu and Kashmir by coming out with documentary evidence in this regard.
“J&K is the fit case for political change that will be brought by the young professionals, technocrats and fresh faces who are being fielded by the ANC as candidates in the forthcoming elections here,” Mr Shah announced and hoped that people of J&K will reject the tainted politicians and bureaucrats this time through the power of vote.
Maintaining that ANC will field candidates on the all the 87 Assembly seats, he said that coalition politics in J&K has failed. However, at the same time, the ANC leader did not rule out the possibility of an alliance with some like minded outfits committed for a clean politics.
Rejecting the speculations on possible merger of ANC in the ruling National Conference, Mr Shah alleged that rumours in this regard were being spread by the Abdullahs (Omar Abdullah and Farooq Abdullah), who happen to be his maternal uncle and cousin.
Some senior ANC leaders, including former Minister G D Shah, provincial president Jammu S Gian Singh, Thakur Randir Singh, Vijay Mangotra and Raj Sharma were also present in the press conference.
