Civil Society challenges KPS elections, terms it mockery

JAMMU, Nov 3: Challenging the holding of elections to Kashmiri Pandit Sabha (KPS) Ambphalla, the prominent Kashmiri Pandits who have floated KP Civil Society today termed these elections as mockery and accused the present team of subverting the character of Sabha which has done revolutionary work in the past.
Talking to reporters here, today former Commissioner JMC, Kiran Wattal, former VC Central University, Prof Ashok Aima former president of the Sabha, Prof A N Sadhu and Panun Kashmir (PK) convener, Dr Agnishekhar accused present body of the Sabha of denying the membership to common KPs living in Jammu region and confining it from 100 to 150 people only. They also alleged that no revision of voter lists is being done.
Dr Agnishekhar said that he being the life member of the Sabha has never been called in any meeting or casting his vote. Terming the election process illegal, he demanded restoration of pristine glory of the Sabha which has been addressing socio-economic issues of the community.
Maintaining that the Sabha is 110 year organization, which is guided by the Constitution Prof A N Sadhu said the present body has made mockery of the same by manipulating it. He said as per Constitution the term of Sabha is two years only but by manipulating the same the term has been extended to five years which is totally illegal. He also challenged the Constitutional amendment made by the present body.
Taking serious exception to working of the present body, he said this was not expected by an educated person as such action goes adverse to entire Samaj which should unite to maintain glory of Sabha.
Kiran Wattal alleged that the Sabha has been grabbed by one family for last three decades and they have made their own people its members while ignoring the common KPs. He said a do and die battle has been launched now.
Maintaining that the Sabha is not registered under UT he termed it illegal as per the reply given in an RTI by Government of Industries and Commerce. He said as per constitution office bears shall hold term for two years after election. Lokesh Ganjoo, B L Dhar, Pintoo Ji , Ashwani Bhat, Tej Dhar, Bitu Ji Bhat, M L Padroo, K L Raina, Urmila Kanth, Chandera Dhar, Fency Koul, Roshan Lal, Avtar Ji, Ramesh Kumar , Sanjay Ji and Ram Rattan were present in the press conference.
