JAMMU, Jan 9: Yog Guru Swami Ram Dev will visit Jammu on February 1st to attend a meeting of Bharat Swabhiman Trust (BST) activists regarding the empowerment of State Panchayats.
This was disclosed by the State in-charge BST Bansi Lal while addressing a press conference, here today.
He said that the conference means to aware the people of State about the dilly dallying policies of Government over introduction of 73rd and 74th Amendments in the Panchayati Raj Institution (PRI).
Strongly criticizing the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah for not implementing the said amendments, he informed that the BST will hold a protest against the Government on January 11 outside the Press Club.
He asserted that the Government conducted the Panchayat elections in April 2011 but failed to complete the process by conducting elections of Block as well as District Level Bodies even after lapse of almost three years time.
“The Panchayat prior to 2011 were under Rule 40 of PRI to operate upon funds available with them by opening different bank accounts at respective panchayat levels, but the same powers have been denied to the newly elected Panchayat of 2011”, he added.
He stated that in the entire nation all the funds are being provided to the respective Panchayats except the J&K where the funds are being provided to the Block Development Officer and appealed the Government to restore funds operating powers with Panchayats.
Among others present were Dev Yog Raj, Jai Ram Sharma, Deepak Sharma, Amarjeet Singh and members of trust.
