JAMMU, Jan 9: In order to promote the marketing of agriculture and horticulture production in twin districts of Rajouri and Poonch, a meeting of the officers of Horticulture, Planning and Marketing Department was held under the chairmanship of Deputy Chairman Legislative Council, Javed Rana here today.
Threadbare discussion was held on various agenda points for up gradation of Horticulture and Agriculture marketing facilities in these areas during the meeting.
Director Horticulture, Planning and Marketing, besides other senior officers of the department attended the meeting.
The Deputy Chairman underscored the need for establishment of Fruit and Vegetables Mandies in various towns of these districts and directed concerned authorities to take steps in this regard.
The issues like strengthening of existing fruit and vegetable mandies, setting up of new mandies, terminal markets, satellite markets and Apni Mandies etc. all over the State with special focus to Rajouri and Poonch areas were also discussed in the meeting.
Mr Rana stressed the need for giving representation to the growers of Rajouri and Poonch in Narwal fruit mandi.
The Director Horticulture, Planning and Marketing assured the Deputy Chairman that the department would provide all necessary available to the growers of these twin districts for establishment of cold store and food processing units. He also apprised the Deputy Chairman about the steps taken by the department for promoting market facilities in these districts.
