UDHAMPUR, Jan 6: Police arrested a site engineer of Tata Project who offered bribe to a Head Constable for registration of FIR on a baseless complaint of theft.
The arrested engineer has been identified as Rajesh Tuntu, Site Engineer of Dulhasti Kishanpur 400 KV transmission line laying project. He had approached the Police station Ramnagar on January 2 with a complaint that Conductor (wire) worth Rs 1.80 lakh, meant for laying between tower number 209 and 210, was stolen.
However, during Police verification by head Constable Kabir Hussain, the complaint was found not based on facts as work of laying conductor between the said towers was already completed before December 22, 2013. The site engineer, who wanted to hide the pilferage caused by him by getting an FIR registered on his baseless complaint, tried to entice the Enquiry Officer by way of offering a bribe of Rs 4000.
However, exhibiting great degree of honesty and maintaining honour of the Police Department, the HC seized the bribe amount on the spot in presence of witnesses and registered an FIR as reverse trap at Police Station Ramnagar.
During further investigations by SDPO Ramnagar, the accused engineer was arrested and the complaint of theft was found baseless.
