Sir,
The whole state of Jammu and Kashmir saw in the gone year the power crisis and the promises made by the government from time to time without any concrete practical results. The situation gets worse for Jammu in hot summer and even the short winter season too while Kashmir division experiences the worst in the winter months. We do not see any peculiar change going to take place in the power situation in the current year , i.e. 2014 as well. It is because of the fact that no new projects which could come up and get commissioned within a few months have been set up by the Government.
The reason put forth by the Government of shortage of funds or incurring losses on the power supply cuts no ice. Only proper planning and tightening the administrative machinery in realizing the revenue could give more money to the Government to at least purchase additional power from the National Grid and other agencies. It could generate funds by floating power bonds, investments from the private sector, and borrowings from consortium of financial institutions, arresting power theft and wastages and other similar steps.
None of the hydel projects is going to get commissioned to supply additional power to the people in 2014 and even in 2015. How is the Government planning to respond to the demand of nearly 2750 megawatts in the State remains to be seen against an availability of merely 700 to 800 Mwtts.?
Yours etc….
