Restore land of Papharan Nag, Karkut Nag shrines: PNKN

JAMMU, Oct 1: The Papharan Nag Karkut Nag (PNKN) Trust has made an appeal to the Government for assistance in the development of the ancient shrines of Karkut Nag and Papharan Nag in village Panzmula -Salia of Anantnag district. The Trust said that both these shrines are in dilapidated condition as they have suffered lot of damage in over three decade long turmoil.
The Trustees also organised the annual Maha Yagya at Karkut Nag. They said that the Trust has constructed boundary wall of the shrine and did not receive any kind of financial assistance from the Government despite frequent appeals. They also urged the Government for restoration of original land belonging to the shrines. The Trust complimented Army for providing tents for shelter to yatries. It also complimented both Army and police for security arrangements during the solemnisation of annual Maha Yagya at Papharan Nag in which large number of devotees from Jammu and Kashmir Valley participated.
The Trust said the devotees who participated in the religious function also paid obeisance at the holy shrine and performed Puja Archana. They were served with Prashad after Puranahuti.
The ancient shrine dates back to the Mahabharata period houses Lord Shiva’s temple and Papharan Nag (sin removing spring).There is a legend that the day of emergence of Papharan Nag was Anant Chaturdashi. It is also believed that having a dip in waters of Papharan Nag and also drinking it’s water cleanses all sins.
As per the tradition, the festival of ‘Divay’ which means illumination of the Papharan Nag with candles and earthen lamps, was also celebrated at the shrine. The devotees also took a dip in the holy waters of Papharan Nag.
The PNKN Trust also organised Yatra to Karkut Nag shrine and offered ‘Tahar’ to the deity followed by Puja. The Trust also released Leela ( devotional song) pertaining to Papharan Nag written by renowned scholar martyr Sarwanand Kaul Premi and sung and composed by MK Pandita.
