JAMMU, July 16: Expressing resentment over hefty power bills being delivered to the poor people of J&K after installation of smart power meters, Lok Jan Shakti Party (Ramvilas) J&K president, Rafiq Malik has appealed J&K LG to ask PDD authorities to address the issue.
Addressing a press conference here today Malik said that people of our State belong to middle class and below poverty line families and they cannot afford such heavy power charges.
“This power is generated from our rivers and the Government is selling it to other States which hike the tariffs for us,” Malik said asking, “How can the poor people pay Rs. 3,000-4,000 bill due to readings on smart power meters?”
He further said that price of a cooking gas cylinder is Rs. 1,250 and the poor people of J&K can’t afford to buy it.
“The income of many people in J&K is very nominal as they either work as salesmen, auto-rickshaw drivers or roadside vendors and they hardly manage the school fee of their children,” said Malik.
Demanding free power and drinking water to the people of J&K, he urged LG Administration to address this issue on priority basis.
He voiced for flat power rates and not the one generated by readings on smart meter.
