DEC asks Health Deptt to ensure proper disposal of BMW across district

‘CEO SDA to make solid waste plant at Baltal functional’

Srinagar, Feb 10: The District Environment Committee (DEC) in Ganderbal has directed the Health Department to ensure that the Bio-Medical Waste (BMW) generated across the district is regularly segregated and disposed of as per the laid down guidelines while other departments have been directed to ensure the implementation of the District Environment Plan and come up with the District Environment Action Plan by February 15.
The directions have been passed in a meeting that was held in the matter of areas of action and implementation of action areas of the District Environment Plan in District Ganderbal while as those in attendance were told that the implementation of DEP is to protect the Environment & Public Health covering specific thematic areas, mentioning current status and targeted compliance level.
Regarding the land transferred to the Municipal Committee, Ganderbal for Safe and scientific disposal of SWM at Hakeem Gund, it was directed during the meeting that all works, taken up, be expedited so that District Ganderbal becomes a Model District under SWM Programme.
As per details, the representative of CMO, Ganderbal was directed for segregation of BMW and its safe disposal by Common Biomedical Waste Treatment Facility (CBWTF) in all the health centres in the District. “…ensure that the waste generated is regularly being taken by CBWTF to avoid any outbreak of the disease in the District keeping In view the COVID-19 Pandemic,” the department was directed.
It was highlighted for CEO Sonamarg and Manasbal Development Authority to ensure that a complete ban on the use of polythene/SUP/ Sale and Supply of such material is implemented in letter and spirit.
CEO Sonamarg Development Authority (SDA) was directed to preserve the fragile environment of the Yatra area and ensure that the Garbage from the Baltal base camp is clumped/disposed of scientifically and the Solid Waste plant is made fully functional in an efficient way.
The head of DEC has directed the Chief Agriculture Officer and Chief Horticulture Officer, Ganderbal to ensure a close vigil on the mixture of Pesticides/ Insecticides kept by the field functionaries of their departments and identification of illegal Pesticide/ insecticide dealers in the District be carried out on war footing basis and initiate strict action against them.
