Tunnel be named on Guru Teg Bahadur

JAMMU, Dec 23: Chairman National Commission for Minorities Iqbal Singh Lalpura on the invitation of Chairman Global Guru Nanak Mission and Civil Society visited Country Inn Resort where he was given a rousing reception by the office bearers of the two organisations.
In the meeting number of burning issues connected with the minority and also with the society discussed. The matter of refugees and the package sanctioned in favour of them, the issue of installation of statue of Baba Banda Singh Bahadur at Kunjwani Chowk, implementation of Punjabi language in schools, grant of OBC status to Sikhs living in Kashmir and also the political reservation for micro minority community in UT.
Grant for Minority Educational Institutions in the UT, beautification of Sikh historical religious places in UT and in other parts of country where the population is negligible shall be taken on priority basis.
Iqbal Singh listened the demands and assured that he will discuss all the issues of the Sikh Community of Jammu and Kashmir with the concerned authorities.
The delegation met under the chairmanship of Dr. Jaswant Singh and the senior members Surjit Singh, Jagjeet Singh, Kuldeep Singh, Ranjit Singh Broca, M.L. Gupta, Darshan Choudhary, Charanjit Singh, Keerat Singh, Kuldeep Singh Arora, Amrik Singh, Mrs. Sunita Kour, Avtar Singh and Sanyogic of Global Guru Nanak Mission Bikram Singh and Vikrant Dogra were also present.
Meanwhile delegation of senior Sikh leaders of BJP met the Chairman of the Minorities Commission, Iqbal Singh Lalpura, to discuss the problems of the Sikhs of Jammu and Kashmir with him. They also demanded to name the Banihal Qazigund Tunnel after Shri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib as Pandit Kriparam along with some of his companions had come from Kashmir to seek help from GuruTegh Bahadur Ji. Therefore, there is an appeal that the Tunnel connecting Kashmir with other states of India should be named after Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji, in this regard a letter has also been given to the Lieutenant Governor, Jammu and Kashmir.
The members of the deputation said that there is a need to think about the minority Sikhs living in Kashmir, who have been living there despite being a militancy affected area.
The Chairman Minority Commission, Iqbal Singh Lalpura discussed with this deputation about the minorities living in Jammu and Kashmir for about an hour.
Others who were part of this deputation along with the BJP senior vice president, Varinderjeet Singh were former general secretary, BJP Minority Morcha, Gurdyal Singh Bali, senior BJP leader, Kulwant Singh Bhatti and Hardev Singh.
