JAMMU, Dec 21: The Centre for Women’s Studies, in collaboration with the Department of Computer Science and IT and Electronics, University of Jammu, organized 16th workshop under the ongoing series for the students and scholars of the Department of Electronics and Computer Science and IT.
Dr Sonia Aneja, Faculty, The Law School, JU was the resource person. She spoke about the concept of Gender and Law. She mentioned how the condition of the women since time immemorial has been secondary. She spoke about the Constitutional provisions under various articles and highlighted the existing legal provisions available to safeguard the rights of women. She also shared a few landmark case judgments related to Sexual harassment, Acid attack, Land inheritance, and Rape.
She also stressed upon the importance of Gender sensitization and suggested few remedial measures to bring gender equality through education, the stringent implementation of laws and a rational makeover of mindset.
Prof Pawanesh Abrol, Head, Department of Computer Science and IT, emphasized on the importance of such workshops. The workshop was conducted and coordinated by Dr Saranjit Kaur and the formal vote of thanks was presented by Kunzang Angmo.
