Oppn councilors in LAHDC for disposing off live bombs

LEH, Dec 14: The Opposition Councilors in LAHDC-Leh today urged the UT Government to look into the Khurul bombs issue, which came into light after a video went viral on social media showing “bombs” in large quantity lying open in Kurul area of Changthang.
Talking to reporters here, today they said that they have written a letter to Lt. Governor, UT Ladakh in this regard. They have also requested the concerned to disposing off these bombs at the earliest. “Lying live bombs in such a condition is dangerous and posing risk not only to humans but also to animals as well” said Smanla Nurboo, Councilor Saspol.
Tondup Nurboo, Councilor Phyang said that 1962 war fought on this place and these live bombs remained unattended or disposed off. He added that Khurul is not a lonely case, these kind of ammunition are said to be found at many battle fields in Ladakh and there are cases of casualties on such sites. He also thanked Army for initiating quick action to dispose off the dangerous ammunition considering the request.
Councilor Skurbuchan , Lhudup Dorjey recalling such case in the past in Hunu said that the inhabitants of border area of namely Hunu lost at least 20 animals due to land-mines” laid out along the border and he expressed hope that army will carry out fencing for such dangerous places at earliest for safety of humans and animals.
