JAMMU, Dec 9: International Anti-Corruption Day was marked by awareness rallies and conferences organized today in various parts of Jammu & Kashmir as well as Ladakh by different Government departments, civic authorities and educational institutions.
To mark the occasion, Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) organized an impressive ‘Pad Yatra’ under the leadership of Mayor Jammu Rajinder Sharma. The ‘Pad Yatra’ begins from Parade and after passing through Parade Ground, Raj Tilak Road, Purani Mandi, Super Bazaar and Raghunath Bazaar, culminated at Hari Singh Park. Besides Councillors, officers and officials of JMC, students from various schools, colleges, universities, members of Chamber of Commerce, traders’ associations, market associations, social organizations, NGOs, senior citizens, etc participated in the event with great enthusiasm.
Mayor Jammu along with all the participants took Integrity pledge to make the system corruption free. One more pledge was taken on the road safety. Speaking on the occasion, the Mayor said corruption affects every area in our society and preventing corruption unlocks progress towards sustainable development goals. “It is not up to countries to unite and face this global problem but every single person, young and old has a role to play, prevent and counter corruption in order to promote resilience and integrity in society,” he asserted and appealed all to come forward in eradicating the corruption to make India corruption free.
2 J&K Boys Battalion Jammu and 1 J&K Naval Unit NCC of Maulana Azad Memorial College under the guidance of Principal Dr GS Rakwal organized a guest lecture on the eve of “International Anti-Corruption Day”. Kulwant Singh Jasrotia, SSP, AIG (DVO), Anti-Corruption Bureau Jammu, was the key resource person on the occasion. In his lecture, Jasrotia explained different forms of corruptions. He urged upon the cadets to support and maintain transparency and cooperate with anti-corruption agencies, since corruption cannot be stopped without the support of general public.
Padma Shri Padma Sachdev Government PG College for Women Gandhinagar organized a rally to celebrate International Anti-Corruption Day with the theme” Uniting the World against Corruption”. As many as 194 volunteers of NSS Unit 1 and 2; cadets of 2 J&K Girls Battalion NCC; 1 J&K, Srinagar and 1 J&K Naval participated in the rally under the Supervision of Prof Mala Bhasin NSSPO (Unit-1), Dr Neelima ANO Naval Unit; Prof Suman Bala, ANO 2 J&K; Prof Poonam, CT 2 J&K; Prof Sugandha Mahajan and Dr Monika Hans, NSSPO (Unit-2). The rally started from the College campus and marched to Parade Ground to merge into the huge congregation.
Chairman/CEC, LAHDC, Kargil Feroz Ahmed Khan today attended a day-long conference on International Anti-Corruption Day at Conference Hall Baroo, organized by Youth Action Committee Kargil. Executive Councilor Health Mohsin Ali, poet Muhammad Yaseen Ansari, representatives of various religious organizations, civil society members, teachers and students from various schools attended the conference. Speaking on the occasion, the CEC said there is a need to make improvements in the system in uprooting corruption. He said that the only way forward to stop the menace of corruption is collective efforts by all stakeholders and to make the Government responsible for development and progress.
