JAMMU, Dec 5: The Kashmir Chamber of Commerce & Industry (KCCI) has urged LG Manoj Sinha to announce amnesty for power tariff in favour of commercial and industrial consumers.
KCCI said that industrialist of J&K region has almost collapsed due to the COVID-19 pandemic crisis.
KCCI president, Sheikh Ashiq Ahmad drew attention of the LG and Arun Kumar Mehta, Chief Secretary towards the industrial sector of J&K and said that due to financial crunch a number of units have not availed previous power amnesty scheme.
He requested the authorities not to disconnect power supplies forcing the industrialists/commercial establishments to close their units.
“Recently we met Principal Secretary, Power Development Department and we are waiting for the outcome of our suggestions given in the meeting and we request LG Administration to announce amnesty to the commercial consumers at par with domestic consumers so that they can pay their (pending) electricity bills waiving interest and penalties besides after settling the same with PDD,” he maintained.
He further said that power situation in Kashmir both for industries and domestic use remains uncertain and erratic load shedding and curtailment is beyond tolerance yet the bills are raised irrationally.
The KCCI president claimed that damaged transformers take months for replacement and with the onset of winters, unscheduled and prolonged power cuts have become common even in metered areas.
He said that the administration should come up with a comprehensive power supply policy.
