Top Army Comdrs to discuss situation along Pak, China borders from Monday

JAMMU, Nov 4: Top brass of the Indian Army will review security situation along Pakistan and China borders and operational preparedness of the troops among other issues at a Conference of the Commanders in New Delhi starting on Monday.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan will address the conference.
This will be the first conference of the Army Commanders after General Chauhan took over as the Chief of Defence Staff.
“The entire top brass of the Indian Army will come together next week in the national capital to review the security situation along the borders,” the officials said.
The top brass of the Army led by General Manoj Pande would be part of the Army Commanders’ Conference where they would discuss all aspects related to security and operational preparedness, the officials said.
They said while a series of issues are taken up by the Army Commanders during the conference, the focus would definitely be on situation along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Eastern Ladakh where Indian and Chinese militaries are still engaged at some points though disengagement has taken place in some other areas after talks between the two sides.
Situation prevailing along the Line of Control (LoC) with Pakistan in Jammu and Kashmir will also come up for high-level discussions at the Army Commanders’ conference.
Though there has been no major ceasefire violations along the LoC after fresh ceasefire agreement came into effect in February 2021 between Indo-Pak troops, some infiltration attempts have taken place on the LoC which have been successfully foiled by the Indian Army.
Internal security situation in Jammu and Kashmir and ongoing anti-militancy operations in the Valley will also figure at the meeting, the officials said.
The conference would be taking place for the first time after the completion of disengagement between the Indian and Chinese Armies from four friction points created after the May 2020 aggression by the Chinese military.
The conference is also expected to look at newer ways to push Make in India in defence for developing more indigenous weapon systems for the troops.
General Pande is a strong supporter of indigenization and has asked officers dealing with modernization to handhold the Indian private and public sector firms to develop world-class weapons.
The meeting would also see interaction with other Services which would help in enhancing jointness among the forces.
Steps towards the creation of Theatre Commands are also likely to come up for discussion at the meeting.
