POONCH, Nov 4: In a tragic incident, 12- year old girl along with her mother was killed while father and brother of the deceased also got injured when a major landslide hit their house at Donad area of Bafliaz near DKG road, under the jurisdiction of Surankote Police Station, here this morning.
Three cows and five goats of the family were also buried alive in the incident as a big boulder, triggered by landslide in wee hours, completely smashed the house.
The incident took place around 4.55 am and the landslide swept away the house of Mohammad Latief (45), leading to death of his wife Naseem Akhter (40) and their daughter Rubina Kouser (12).
Latief and his son Basharat, who were seriously injured in the incident, were rescued by a patrolling party of Army, which noticed the landslide and found that family members were under debris. Both the injured are undergoing treatment at hospital and their condition was stated to be out of danger.
Reports said that 48-RR Unit of Army, which was on patrolling in the area, launched the rescue operation and shifted the victims to Sub District Hospital Surankote where woman and her minor daughter succumbed to their injuries.
Later, the surviving injured were shifted to GMC Rajouri for advanced treatment and their condition was stated to be stable.
Locals alleged that a private company, contractor and others working on the road project were responsible for this incident as the work was being done in violation of safety norms. They demanded registration of FIR against the construction company and the contractor.
Police said that a case vide FIR number 362/2022 under Sections 304A, 336, 427, 429 and 323 IPC has been registered in this connection in Police Station Surankote and investigation was taken up.
Meanwhile, on the direction of DC Poonch Inderjeet Singh, SDM Surankote, Nahiem Ul Nisa visited the spot and handed over immediate cash relief of Rs 25 thousands to the victim family.
