JAMMU, Sept 29: Voluntarily retired employees of J&K State Road Transport Corporation held protest demonstration followed by ‘dharna’ at Exhibition Ground near Press Club here today.
The retirees from the Transport Corporation, under the banner of All J&K SRTC Volunteer Retired Employees Association assembled at the Exhibition Ground here in the morning and started protest demonstration. Dev Raj Bali president, Balwinder Singh vice president and Surinder Singh, general secretary of the Association were leading.
Carrying banner and projecting their demands, the agitating VRS given workers of the Corporation were raising loud slogans. They were also protesting against the Transport Minister Ch Ramzan and Managing Director of the SRTC for giving deaf ear to their genuine and justified demands.
They said that SRTC has yet to clear the dues of the VRS/GHS employees and the MD had demanded Rs 30.16 lakh from the State Finance Department to clear the liability but the funds have been denied. They demanded that their dues with interest at the rate of 12 % compound interest be provided. Due to delay being caused on the part of Government the families of the SRTC retirees are suffering.
They further demanded release of pending arrears of 6th Pay Commission with effect from 2006 and pending COLA installments/ arrears pending since 1999 along with leave salary, gratuity and ex-gratia grant. After staging protest dharna for several hours they dispersed.
