Ch Zulfikar demands compensation for loss of crops, properties

RAJOURI, July 20: Vice-president of Apni Party and former Minister, Choudhary Zulfikar Ali today demanded restoration of closed interior roads, bridges those were washed away and demanded compensation for losses suffered by the people as their private properties and Govt infrastructure were damaged in heavy rains in the district.
Addressing media persons, Choudhary Zulfikar Ali said that heavy rains put the normal life out of gear in the entire district due to which the people have lost their properties, road connectivity in the interior link roads have been lost, standing crops and fruits have been damaged.
“The people in Budhal and other places of the district have suffered heavy losses and the bridges connecting different villages in Rajouri have also been washed away,” he said.
He said that the interior roads i.e., Panhad, Panglar, Khawas, Darhat, and other villages have been washed away and there is a need to restore the connectivity as early as possible by deploying JCBs at the needed places.
“In one of the villages, a bridge has been washed away and it has disconnected one village with the rest of the population. The students are not able to go to their schools. Hence, the bridge must be re-constructed to restore the road connectivity,” he said.
Zulfikar said that the people have not only lost their houses but the agricultural land too and appealed to the Govt to hold a proper assessment so that the victim families could be compensated adequately. “The people are dependent upon agriculture and cattle rearing and therefore, the Govt must provide the compensation amount to the rainfall affected families within a time limit,” he said.
“Cattle rearing should be declared as an industry in J&K and cattle insurance policy should be launched in J&K for the benefit of the tribal people,” he also demanded.
