JAMMU, July 6: Two foot bridges and a water mill (Gharat) were washed away and large area of agriculture land and standing crop suffered damage after flash flood in Kibber Nallah due to cloudburst in Marwah-Dachhan area while local Yatra has been badly hit due to washing away of another food bridge in flash flood in Paddar area of district Kishtwar.

Official sources said that during heavy rain and thunder- storm in parts of Kishtwar this afternoon, incident of cloudburst was reported in remote Dachhan area due to which flash flood in Kibber Nallah caused extensive damage. It caused extensive land erosion and damaged agriculture land and standing crops of the villagers.
Two foot bridges and a water mill were washed away near Saplota and Cheerji villages while land – communication was also snapped. Some electric poles were also damaged and power supply too, was hit. One of the bridges, was situated at Horhi hamlet in Dachhan. A cremation ground shed and adjoining area land was also washed away in the flood.
With the washing away of the bridge, the communication to several villages and hamlets of Marwah-Dachhan has been snapped. The locals have demanded raising of foot bridges on emergency basis in the area.
The flash flood in Kibber Nallah caused threat in the low lying areas and some people left their houses in panic and ran away to the safer places. However, after about an hour the water level started receding. It also washed away big logs of timber in the flash flood.
Deputy Commissioner, Kishtwar, Ashok Sharma said that the incident of cloud burst in Cheerji and Saplota areas of Dachhan was reported at around 4 pm today. He said in this flash flood incident, two low-foot bridges in the same area were also washed away besides a water mill (Gharat).
The DC said no loss of human life has been reported so far but reports with regard to loss of cattle, agriculture land, crops etc are yet awaited. He said this area falls in Dachhan and a team will be sent to the area tomorrow morning to assess the loss and the general situation.
He said the public has been advised not to venture out near Chenab river as its level also increased after massive flood in Nallahs and heavy rain in upper reaches of the district.
Meanwhile, reports from Paddar Sub Division of Kishtwar said that with the washing away of another foot bridge at Kundail last evening, Chitto Mata Yatra has been badly hit. However, no loss of human life has been reported. In this pilgrimage, mostly locals of the area participate. They have urged the District and Sub Divisional Administration to restore the bridge on emergency basis so that Yatra is restored.
Reports further said that incident of cloudburst and flash flood was also reported from Massu area on Machail Mata route. One of the damaged bridges has been restored while another one is also likely to be restored on emergency basis before start of Machail Mata Yatra commencing on July 25.
Meanwhile, heavy rain and flash flood in several Nallahs has also been reported from Chhatroo, Chingam, Marwah, Gandoh-Bhalessa, Bhaderwah and other parts of Kishtwar and Doda but no loss has been reported since last evening.
