REASI, Sept 13: An Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) and a Special Police Officer (SPO) were today arrested for kidnapping and raping a girl while as Talwara migrants held massive protest demonstration against the incident demanding immediate arrest of Personal Assistant to SSP Reasi, who went underground in order to evade arrest in the heinous crime.
Sources said that a girl residing in Migrant Camp at Talwara was lifted by the police officials namely Satvir Singh (Personal Assistant of SSP Reasi), Mahesh Mehta (ASI) and Karnail Singh (SPO) last evening and then gang raped in village Mari.
On the basis of specific information about the incident, DySP Headquarters Reasi conducted a raid in village Mari and recovered the girl from the illegal confinement of the accused cops. Though ASI and SPO were detained immediately the PA to SSP Reasi managed to escape from the area.
Later, police got the medical examination of the girl conducted and produced her before the Judicial Magistrate for recording her statement.
The incident sparked protests from the Talwara migrants, who blocked the main road at Baradari bridge for more than two hours demanding registration of FIR against all the three accused police officials for kidnapping and raping a minor girl besides arrest of absconding PA to SSP Reasi.
Keeping in view the sensitivity of the situation, Deputy Commissioner Reasi, Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary rushed to the spot along with ACR Tilak Raj Shastri and DySP J D Slathia. He was told by the agitating people that PA to SSP Reasi was involved in malpractices since long and his conduct was brought to the notice of senior police officers a number of times but no action was taken against him for obvious reasons.
After hectic persuasions, the Deputy Commissioner succeeded in pacifying the agitating people with the assurance that absconding PA to SSP Reasi would be arrested within two days. Following DC’s assurance the agitating migrants dispersed but with the warning that they would resort to massive protest if police fails to nab the absconding accused.
