CJM directs investigation into grabbing of SDA land by drivers

Srinagar, Aug 30: Chief Judicial Magistrate, Srinagar, today directed the police to investigate into the encroachment of Srinagar Development Authority (SDA) land by some taxi drivers on Maulana Azad Link Road earlier this week.
The magistrate has directed the Incharge Police Station, Kothibagh, in whose jurisdiction the SDA land falls, to file the compliance within three days.
The dispute arose after some taxi drivers with the backing of some ruling party politicians illegally occupied a prime plot of land worth over Rs 100 crore belonging to Srinagar Development Authority (SDA) to set up a Taxi stand.
After police and the district administration failed to remove the encroachment, SDA complained before the CJM.
The SDA, in its complaint, has pleaded the “non-applicants (police and administration) may kindly be directed to take appropriate action including registration of FIR in the matter without any further delay.”
Forcing their way into the compound, the taxi drivers bulldozed the SDA stores on Maulana Azad Link Road on the intervening night of August 24 and 25 and parked their vehicles there.
The Taxi drivers have put up banners declaring the plot, measuring around 1.6 acres and valued at over Rs 100 crore, as a taxi stand.
