KATHUA, Apr 5: Body of a minor boy was recovered from river, while one other drowned in a stream here today.
As per police sources, on March 31 this year at about 2:20 pm, an information was received at Police Station Billawar that a minor boy namely Abhi Kumar Bhagat (16), son of Bhushan kumar of Phinter has drowned in Ujh river near Panjtirthi.
Acting swiftly, a team from Police Station Billawar led by SHO Inspector Kuldeep Raj under the supervision of SDPO Billawar Arvind Kumar and SSP Kathua RC Kotwal reached the spot and started searching minor boy.
Meanwhile, SDRF and Army personnel were also called for the search of minor boy as the flow of water was fast at some places and its level was about 25 to 30 feet.
After hectic efforts, Billawar Police along with personnel of Army and SDRF retrieved the dead body of minor boy from Ujh river which was about 5 kilometers away from the place where he drowned.
Later, the body of the deceased was handed over to legal heirs after completion of all the legal formalities.
Meanwhile, in another similar incident, a man identified as Mohammad Kabir, son of Mohammad Qasim, a resident of Marrapatti Tehsil Mahanpur drowned in a stream at Malani area of tehsil Billawar here today.
On getting information, a search operation was launched and his body was fished out from the river.
In both the cases, Billawar Police has taken cognizance.
