JAMMU, Feb 11: Jammu and Kashmir women’s wing of Shiv Sena staged protest demonstrations by holding placards in their hands to draw the attention of the Government toward free education for girls from elementary to higher level and pitched for 50 percent reservation in jobs besides free travel in Government public transport, here today.
The demonstrations were held on the instructions of the party J&K president Manish Sahni.
The main demonstration was held outside the Party’s central office in Jammu led by president women’s wing Meenakshi Chhibber. Addressing the participants Meenakshi said that Jammu and Kashmir is at 20th position in terms of female literacy while literacy rate is very less as compared to the boys in the UT.
Women and Child Safety Cell president Preeti Joshi and Vaishnavi Hindustani secretary demanded to provide free travel facility to women in Government public transport. However, they welcomed the raising of the marriage age of girls from 18 to 21 but emphasized that this time should be properly utilized for providing quality higher education to women.
Vaishnavi demanded that the Government should take appropriate steps to ensure women and child safety, while Preeti Joshi said that the women are being made aware about their rights as part of Shiv Sena campaign to seek justice for women.
Meanwhile, in Kashmir Shivsainiks gathered under the chairmanship of Naseema Begum, president women and child protection cell Kashmir and staged the demonstration demanding equal rights for women. Naseema said that almost all the parties including the BJP rake up the issue of the rights of women only at the time of elections and forget the same thereafter.
She said that in Uttar Pradesh, almost all the parties including BJP are making promises of free education and free travel to women till post graduation in their manifesto. But nothing is being done to educate women at the grass roots level to make them self-reliant or provide reservation to them in Government jobs.
General secretary Geeta Lakhotra, Meena Rani, Nagina Khan, Seema Mahajan, Manju, Sunanda and many others were present during the protest demonstration.
