JAMMU, Aug 4: Police arrested three notorious thieves and recovered gold ornaments and other stolen items worth lakhs of rupees from their possession.
This was disclosed by Atul Goel, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Jammu, during a press conference here today.
He said that the these thieves were found involved in a number of theft and burglary cases, particularly in areas falling under the jurisdiction of Police Stations Trikuta Nagar, Bahu Fort, Bagh-e-Bahu and Channi Himmat.
SSP added that the arrests were made after strenuous efforts by a special police team comprising of personnel drawn from the police stations of Sub Division East, Jammu, which was led by SDPO East SS Sambyal under the supervision of SP South Rajeshwar Singh.
The thieves have been identified as Ravi Kumar alias Vicky, son of Prem Chand of Qasim Nagar and Suleiman Ahmad, son of Farooq Ahmed of Rajiv Nagar, Narwal, SSP informed.
During questioning they confessed to their involvement in a number of burglaries, he said, adding that partial recoveries in seven burglary cases have been made, which included five tolas gold ornaments, one LED, one inverter, three mobile sets, one pashmina shawl, one Yashica camera, two wrist watches, one piano (Casio), one compass and two rings.
It is expected that more cases of thefts will be solved during the ongoing investigations, SSP added.
In another complaint, a truck driver Shabir Ahmad also lodged a complaint with Police Station Channi Himmat alleging that Rs 1,20,000 and two mobiles sets were stolen from his truck bearing registration number JK20-2625 during intervening night of July 22 and 23, SSP said.
Accordingly, a case under FIR number 68/13 under Section 380 RPC was registered with police station Channi Himmat and during investigation, police arrested Tarun Naik, son of Rinku Naik of Orissa, presently living at Gangyal, he said, adding that recovery of Rs 56,700 has been made, while the remaining cash and one mobile set are presumably with his associates who have been identified and a manhunt has been launched to nab them.
SSP also informed that, Showkat Parvez, resident of Gujjar Colony lodged a complaint with Police Station Channi Himmat that some thieves had stolen his cash Rs 1,24,000, one pen drive and one mobile set.
A case under FIR number 64/13 under Section 457/380 RPC was registered with Police Station Channi Himmat and investigation started, SSP said, adding that the stolen cash and items were recovered from minor school going children who are also residents of Gujjar Colony. However, he did not disclose the names of the minors and said that the case will be processed under the Juvenile Justice Act.
