JAMMU, Dec 28: Vocational Teachers in Jammu and Kashmir have urged the Lt Governor Manoj Sinha to fulfill his assurance and bring them under direct control of the Government by formulating a job policy for them.
Working from last 6 years along with the regular teachers and Lecturers, these vocational trainers are teaching 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th class students at very low salaries without any increment or other benefits that the other officials are getting in the Government schools.
These VTs are highly qualified professional with degrees like Ph D, MBA, M Tech, MSc IT, MTM, MCA and B-Tech along with required experiences and desired skills and giving their services in various trades like Retail, IT, Tourism, Health care, Electronics & Hardware, Beauty &wellness, Home furnishings, Agriculture, Physical education & Sports, etc.
Pertinent to mention that NSQF is a nationally integrated education and competency based skill framework to enhance employability skills of students by introducing applied learning skills in integration with academic stream. The trainings conducted in the scheme are based on the Nation Occupational Standards set by NSDC through its Sector Skill Councils.
J&K Union Territory is also one in the country having successfully implemented Vocational education in Govt schools at Secondary and Higher Secondary level since October 2016.
The Vocational Trainers/Teachers of Jammu and Kashmir were recruited by private companies under the supervision of the concerned department Samagra Shiksha in the year 2016 in various High Schools and Higher Secondaries to prepare the students in productive trades and improve their vocational efficiency in order to maintain global competitiveness under different courses.
These Vocational Teachers claim that the Govt made several promises with respect to framing of job policy and providing other entitlements to them but there was no action on the ground. In the month of July 2021, Lt Governor Manoj Sinha purportedly gave assurance to Vocational Teachers in “Awam Ki Awaz” that a job policy will be framed soon but it remained an announcement only.
At the same time, Govt of Haryana has put a full stop to the issues of 2094 vocational trainers by removing the private companies and giving freedom to vocational trainers from the menace of contractual practices.
Now these Vocational Teachers of J&K, who are around 1100 in number, are also waiting with the hope that Lt Governor will bring an end to their miseries by fulfilling his promise of framing job policy for them as well.
