Jammu, Dec 17 : State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization (SOTTO) J&K, in collaboration with the Red Cross Unit of Padma Shri Padma Sachdev Govt. PG College for Women, Gandhi Nagar Jammu today organized an Human Organ Donation awareness cum Organ Pledging Campaign.
On the occasion, more than 50 participants, including teaching staff and students pledged for organ donation.
The chief patron of the programme was Dr. Sangita Nagari, Principal of the college. She motivated the students to serve humanity by donating organs.
Dr Sanjeev Puri, Joint Director, SOTTO J&K, through his presentation made the students aware regarding deceased organ donation. “The solution to bridge the wide gap between organ availability and organ requirement in India is possible only through the strengthening of the deceased organ donation”, he added.
Dr. Revika Arora, Assistant Professor, Chemistry and Nodal Officer Red Cross unit of the college said that voluntary organ donation is the only way to meet the huge demand of organs.
Irfan Ahmed Lone, Transplant Coordinator, SOTTO J&K described the National Organ Transplant Program (NOTP) being run in Super Specialty Hospital, Government Medical College Jammu. “Many people die due to non-availability of organs for transplant so it is very important to pledge and donate organs”, he said.
A painting/ poster competition was organized on the theme ‘Angdaan se Jeevandan’ among the students to motivate others to pledge organs while living through their art. Vanshika Slathia, Vanshika Thakur and Nandini Manhas secured the first, second and third positions respectively in the competition.
Whole event was coordinated by Suraj Mohani Jamwal, Assistant Professor, Sociology and Anshu Sharma, Consultant (IEC/ Media) SOTTO J&K. The highlight of the event was the QA session that saw a very high level of engagement and interaction by the participants.
Dr. Harjeet Kour, Associate Professor, Botany; Dr. Mohinder Pal, HoD, Statics; Eisha Gohil, Asst. Professor, Psychology and Dr. Ashok Kumar, Asst. Professor, Biochemistry were also present during the event.
