JAMMU, Dec 14: Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) has passed a unanimous resolution seeking 50 percent reservation in private sector jobs for locals and domiciles of Jammu and Kashmir.
In its general house meeting held on 11th of this month, a resolution in this regard was passed with support of all the members present in the meeting. The resolution seeking 50 percent reservation in jobs was presented in the House by Narotam Sharma, BJP Councilor of JMC Ward Number 3 representing Old Heritage Jammu city.
The resolution presented by the Councilor Narotam Sharma read: As we all members of this house would agree that today besides other major issues, the main problem that we all members of JMC come across being elected representatives of the people is ‘Unemployment’ and we all also would agree that with rising population and limited resources it is not possible for any Government to provide Government jobs to everyone but yes it is admitted that it is the responsibility of the Government to provide employment to its people.
“As on date, several Industrial units including Public Private Partnership firms are working in J&K, these industrial units have been provided land and other benefits in the form of subsidies, Contracts’ works of developments worth crores of rupees have been allotted to different business establishments out of which many belong to other parts of the country and even some Multi National Companies,” said the resolution.
The resolution further stated that that these MNCs bring skilled and trained people along with them and do not provide job opportunity to locals of the area. Citing the example of other states wherein such laws have made wherein the Industrial units and MNCs have been made bound to recruit minimum 50 percent reservation of local youth, the JMC councilor demanded the reservation for local youth and domiciles of J&K in Smart City projects, IIT, IIM, AIIMS and other projects initiated by Central Government for J&K. The resolution was passed in the House and now it would be further forwarded to the concerned administrative department of Commerce and Industries.
