JAMMU, Nov 23: Councillors of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) here today staged a sit-in by closing the main gate of the Urban Local Body in protest against JMC victimising the shopkeepers.
The protest was led by Councillors Gaurav Chopra and Amit Gupta who raised slogans against JMC officials, Municipal Commissioner, Mayor and Deputy Mayor. The protesting Councillors said that General House Meeting of JMC should be called soon to discuss problems of the public.
They said that the way JMC is demolishing shops these days and putting yellow lines in front of shops amounts to intimidating the shopkeepers.
Chopra said if these shops are illegal then why action was not taken against them at the time when they were constructed.
“JMC should take action against the officers who were at helm then,” he maintained adding that silence of Mayor and Deputy Mayor in this matter is raising eyebrows.
The JMC Councillor also said that they will not accept this hooliganism of the Corporation under any circumstances and to end it, it is necessary to have a General House Meeting of the Corporation which has not assembled for about a year
Councillor Anu Balin also supported the protesting Councillors.
