JAMMU, Nov 11: All J&K Jat Maha Sabha today reiterated its demand of adequate compensation to farmers affected by recent incessant rains and hailstorm, and also urged the Government to fulfill the promise of carrying out special spray in their fields to convert the residual hay of damaged crops into fertilizer.
The issues were raised by Choudhary Manmohan Singh, president All J&K Jat Maha Sabha, while chairing a meeting of Maha Sabha’s Jammu Urban unit.
The members earlier highlighted the losses incurred by the hailstorm that struck the region and caused widespread devastation by damaging the standing crops of the farmers. The meeting said that the Government has assured to carry out special spray or at least provide the same to the farmers so that damaged crops could be converted into manure but still the decision is hanging in balance and the Government is dilly-dallying. They urged the Government to fulfill its promise as soon as possible.
Singh termed the situation of farmers as highly unfortunate as they are struggling for their rights and no one in the Government is ready to listen. He demanded the Government to provide crop compensation to the farmers as per market value and in line with other states and UTs of the country since the barrier of Article 370 has been removed now. He also urged the Government to waive off power bills of farmers as they use electricity extensively for pumping ground water.
He also raised the issue of ownership rights for the Refugees families who migrated to the region and also demanded a complete package of Rs 30 lakh as only Rs 5.5 lakh have been released till date. He also appealed the Lt Governor Manoj Sinha for clearing all the pending files of settlement cases lying in DC office or Revenue department.
