Protests, clashes over death of 2 boys

SRINAGAR, July 15:  Police fired tear gas shells and used batons to quell protests at various places in Srinagar and North Kashmir against the mysterious death of two Kashmiri youth in Mumbai and Rajasthan.
For the second consecutive day today, a complete shutdown and clashes erupted at various areas of North and Central Kashmir against these deaths. Around half a dozen policemen and protesters were injured in these clashes.
A complete shutdown was observed at Nawa Bazar in Srinagar and Sopore, Bandipora, Baramulla, Dalina, Naidkhai, Larsun in North Kashmir and Ganderbal in Central Kashmir over the mysterious death of the two youth, Parvez Ahmad Tali of Qalambanpora Srinagar and Abid Ahmad Gani of Larson, Ganderbal.
Scores of youth tried to hold a protest demonstration at main Sopore Chowk this morning. The presence of police and CRPF deployed in the township did not allow them to hold protest demonstration.
The youths pelted stones towards police and CRPF. The police in reiteration fired tear gas shells and resorted to baton charge to disperse them.
The locals said that during the clashes one Army vehicle came under heavy stone pelting near main Chowk Sopore. The Army personnel boarded in other vehicles of the convoy jumped from their vehicles and entered residential areas with police and CRPF to chase the protesters.
A large group of youths assembled at main Chowk Delina in Baramulla and raised slogans against the death of two youth. The police personnel deployed there, intervened and asked the youths to disperse, the youths pelted stones towards the police and CRPF.
The police fired in air and also fired smoke shells towards the protesters. However the protesters, who were in large numbers showed stiff resistance and continuously, pelted stone towards the police.
The additional deployment of police and CRPF were made in Delina area and the protesters were forced to disperse.
Clashes also broke out at Baramulla and Bandipora townships. Scores of youth pelted stones towards the police and CRPF. They fired smoke shells towards the youths forced them to disperse.
During the clashes at various other areas of north Kashmir, traffic movement was adversely affected on the Srinagar- Baramulla, Srinagar-Sopore, Kupwara and Bandipora roads.
In the native places of the two youth, at Nawab Bazar and Larson Ganderbal tension prevailed throughout the day. Shops and other business establishments remained closed in these areas.
A groups of youth pelted stones towards police at Nawa Bazar early in the morning. However, the heavy deployment of police forced them to disperse.
The authorities had made extra ordinary security measures to prevent people from holding pro freedom demonstration against the killing. Police had put in place severe restrictions to stop the movement of people.
Meanwhile, the kin and locals are awaiting the body of Abid Ahmad Gani, residence of Larson, Ganderbal who died under mysterious circumstances in Rajasthan.
Abid, 21, was studying at an Islamic seminary in Ahmedabad (Gujarat) for the past eight months. Rajasthan Police informed his family that his body was found in Udaipur Sunday.
Police sources said that the officials were in touch with their counterparts in Rajasthan and Maharashtra to ascertain facts pertaining to the deaths of two locals in these states.
Another local, Parvaiz Ahmad Teli, 35, who was from Qalamdanpora (Nawa Bazaar) in the old city area of Srinagar, who was missing at Mumbai, was found death mysteriously.
Teli was a salesman in a Kashmiri arts shop in Bangalore. He went to Mumbai to meet his relatives 15 days ago and went missing. His family said Maharashtra Police said they discovered Teli’s body July 9.
In the meantime, Jammu and Kashmir Police is deputing an ASP along with another officer to verify first hand account regarding the death of one Pervez Ahmad Teli. The team will verify all the facts of the case.
Police have received a communication from Mumbai Police which states that, the DCP Mumbai Police, Pravin Patil has personally verified witness statements and has reported that a missing report was registered on July 8 evening at Dahisar Police Station and during enquiry it has revealed that on July 6 the deceased has sought help and was given help by local Borivali Muslim boys.
A statement issued by police said that Dr Rajesh Wandara who treated him had asked him to go to Bhagavati Hospital for treatment and Medico Legal certificate(MLC) but Pervez had declined. “He had narrated that someone had assaulted and robbed him but he wanted to go to cousins. Pervez boarded Churchgate bound local train that night”, the statement adds.
The statement said that further enquiries have revealed that Pervez was found in injured condition  on railway track near Elphinstone Station. “He was admitted to KEM hospital where he was declared dead on 09.07.2013 evening. Accidental death report no. 88/2013 is registered at Mumbai Central Railway Police Station”, the statement adds.
