JAMMU, July 15: People’s Democratic Party (PDP) is committed for socio-economic development and political empowerment of the women and other marginalized sections of the society.
This was stated by Mehbooba Mufti, president, PDP, while addressing a women convention jointly organised by Bharat Choudhary and Ashok Jogi here this afternoon.
She reminded the gathering that provision of reservation was made for women in the Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) elections, which were held after three decades, during the tenure of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed.
“PDP led regime had not only democratically constituted ULBs but also ensured adequate representation of women in ULBs all over the State” she said, adding, “PDP’s revolutionary steps yielded encouraging results”.
Regretting that the present Government has failed to do justice with women, she observed that women were the worst victims of the wrong policies of the present dispensation in J&K.
While emphasizing on the need of formulating a comprehensive policy especially to target women for inclusive development of the society, she assured that the PDP would formulate women oriented programmes to ensure their upliftment.
She exhorted the women to actively participate in political activities.
