IEC of GMC Jammu gives clearance to Research Projects

JAMMU, Oct 11: Institutional Ethics Committee of Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu held its Full Board meeting, here today and gave Provisional Ethical Clearance to Synopsis and Non-Synopsis Research Projects
Dr Shashi Sudan Sharma, Principal GMC and Dean, graced the occasion and encouraged the researchers to contemplate more and more quality research to bring research modules of GMC Jammu at par with national and international standards. She said that for quality research all the logistic support and help shall be provided to the IEC GMC Jammu.
Dr Sanjay Kumar Bhasin, Members Secretary IEC, presented agenda of the meeting. He informed that in last about a year, about 410 Synopsis and Non-Synopsis got provisional ethical clearance and there are one dozen ongoing projects in GMC and Associated Hospitals under those approvals. He further informed that mandatory registration of IEC with NECRBHR, MoH&FW, GoI has been done and a Provisional File Number has been allotted. He said that a separate IEC website shall be designed and priority area shall be to encourage the Researchers to undertake more and more quality research projects within the ambit of SOPs of IEC and CDSCO guidelines.
While informing about the projects deliberations for today’s IEC meet, he said that 215 non-regulatory research proposals were scrutinized (189-Plan of Thesis and 25 Non-Thesis) and 39 researchers presented their research proposals to the full board.
Few amongst the projects were, “Comparative evaluation of two different bolus doses of ephedrine to prevent post spinal hypotension in patients undergoing PCNL”, “Effect of Nd :yag laser posterior capsulotomy on central corneal thickness”, “Comparative Study of Intrathecal Dexmedetomidine and Fentanyl as Adjuvant to Hyperbaric Bupivacaine in Pregnant Females Posted for Elective Caesarean”.
Dr Ghanshyam Saini, who was the Officiating Chairman, stressed on quality research. The experts shared their inputs with the presenters to make these projects more quality and data based.
The members, who attended Full Board Meeting and took part in deliberations, included Dr Ghanshaym Dev (Advisor to IEC), Prof Sunil Sachdev, Prof Anil Gupta (ASCOMS) Prof Ravinder Gupta (ASCOMS), Prof Subash Bhardwaj, Prof Jyoti Hak, Prof Seema Gupta, Dr Anjali Mehta, Adv P S Parmar, Sudhir Kumar (Layman), Dev Raj and Dr Nancy Meengi (Social Scientist).
