Srinagar, Sept 25: The workers engaged under Emergency Response COVID Package (ERCP) today protested against the administration’s move disengaging them from their service even as they have been on the forefront during the peak of the COVID pandemic.
Several such workers appeared in the Press Colony and were seen raising slogans against the administration and in favour of their demands.
Tanveer Ahmad, one of the aggrieved workers said that they have been disengaged by the Government even when the COVID is still there. He alleged that the Government was resorting to a “use and throw policy.”
“We were the ones who remained on the forefront when everyone was running away from the COVID patients, we took their samples did other procedures as well and now the Government is telling us that the due to the paucity of funds, our services are being ended,” he said.
The workers said that in their place, the Government is going to engage other people who are less experienced than they are. “If they do not have funds, how are they going to accommodate them, wouldn’t have been better if they would have kept us intact,” the workers asked.
Around 1600 in number, the workers said that disengaging them was sheer “injustice” on the part of the concerned department and that they should roll back the disengagement orders immediately.
“We appeal the LG Manoj Sinha to look into the matter as the Government has been stating that its priority is to provide employment to the youth, but on the other side, they are adding to the unemployment,” the workers said.
