More than 6,800 pilgrims leave base camps for Holy Amarnath cave

SRINAGAR : More than 6,800 pilgrims, including women and sadhus, today left Nunwan Pahalgam and Baltal base camps for the Holy Amarnath cave shrine in south Kashmir Himalayas to pay obeisance to the self-made Ice-Shivlingam.
The yatra was stopped from shortest Baltal track yesterday due to slippery conditions following heavy rains.
However, the weather has improved and 4,772 pilgrims, including sadhus and woman, left early this morning from Baltal base camp for the Cave Shrine.
Similarly those, who were stopped at cave yesterday, also started their return journey this morning.
A yatra official said 2,070 pilgrims also left Nunwan Pahalgam base camp for the cave shrine.
Pilgrims, who had night halt at different halting station on this traditional track also started their onward journey towards the shrine.
This year the number of pilgrims, who had darshan of Shivlingam in the cave, has reached to more than 1.85,000 since the commencement of the 55-day-long yatra from June 28.
The yatra was going on smoothly, he said, adding that five yatris had lost their lives during the pilgrimage. (AGENCIES)
