Brick kiln owners show concern over price hike of coal, diesel

KATHUA, Sept 17: The Kathua Brick Kiln Association (KBKA) expressed its serious concern over price hike of material used in brick kilns for manufacturing bricks.
While addressing media persons, here today Brick Kiln Association Kathua, president, Sham Narayan Mehta said that due to COVID, the brick kiln owners are already facing loss during last two years. Now the price hike in brick manufacturing creates serious problems.
He said that the rates of coal have increased from Rs 10,000 per ton to Rs 23000 per ton in last three months, the diesel rates also increased from Rs 65 to 95 per litre and labour cost has also increased causing serious problems to Brick kiln owners.
He added that under such circumstances when the rates of Cement, Iron and power have increased rapidly, the rates of bricks should also be increased which are sold on old rates of Rs 6000 per thousand. This way the brick kiln owners are put to heavy loss, he added.
If the rates of bricks are not increased, the owners may be forced to stop the manufacturing.
Approximately 50,000 laborers may be affected in Jammu if the manufacturing of bricks may be stopped by owners, he said. The Association appealed the Government to takes necessary action in favour of brick kiln owners to fix the new rates at the earliest.
