Srinagar, Sept 15: Budgam family whose son was found hanging in RIMT University in Punjab today rejected Punjab Government’s claim that the deceased had committed suicide while demanding a thorough probe into the matter.
The family has also refuted the statement made by the Office of the Punjab CM that the family was satisfied with the probe carried out by the police.
The media in charge of Punjab Chief Minister, Raveen Thukral in a series of Tweets earlier stated that he was informed by DGP that Umar Dev was in depression and he left behind a suicide note. He also said that the deceased’s family was satisfied with the investigations.
The deceased, Umar Dev, a Radiology student from Chewdara Beerwah area of Central Kashmir’s Budgam district was earlier found dead and was then laid to rest after carrying out his last rites.
However, the family refutes the claims and has demanded a thorough probe into the matter. “Although we are thankful and satisfied with the support they got from Jammu and Kashmir Police and Punjab Police they want a thorough probe into the incident,” said the deceased’s brother Showkat Ahmad.
The family said that their son was not suffering from depression while post mortem reports are still awaited.
“We have learnt that there was a fight between Umar and other boys in the University and that the incident is yet to be investigated,” the family said.
The family has appealed to the J&K as well as Punjab Government to take the matter seriously and investigate the matter thoroughly.
