JAMMU, Aug 19: Sharavan Bah was observed at Tirath Raj Kapal Mochan Shopian today. The devotees from different parts of J&K participated in the function and paid obeisance at holy shrine.
Earlier a two day Maha Yagya was performed at the holy shrine with chanting of Vedic hymns and the devotees were served Prashad after Puranahuti.
The Shrine dates back to Puranic period, and has reference to Lord Shiva. It is believed that the people who attain premature deaths or die in accidents get absolved after their religious rituals are performed at this shrine. Earlier people used to come on this day to the holy shrine from neighboring states of Punjab , Himachal and Haryana but the practice stopped after Kashmir was gripped by militancy in 1989-90.
The function was organised by Tirath Raj Kapal Mochan Committee headed by its president V S Lahori. He, while giving details said that two day long Maha Yagya was held at shrine which started on August 17 and concluded on August 18 with Puranahuti under the supervision of Pran Nath Shastri.
Today besides the performance of religious rituals a get together was also held in which various local political leaders besides LJP spokesperson, Sanjay Saraf, Jyotshi Omkar Nath Shastri a religious scholar and Virender Sathoo member of the Committee were also present.
Lahori said that the local administration extended all support in performance of three day long religious function. On the conclusion of the function two minutes silence was observed in memory of J L Khandari one of the members of the Committee who passed away today.
