REASI, Aug 19: With the arrest of six drug peddlers, Reasi Police has busted a racket of narcotic smugglers, which was involved in spreading drug abuse in the town.
Giving details, Police said that during intervening night of 18/19th of August, team of Reasi Police laid a surprise naka on Katra-Reasi road at Simbal Chuwa and intercepted a vehicle (Brezza) bearing registration number JK20B- 9998, which was coming from Jammu to Reasi.
During search, Heroin was recovered from the possession of three youngsters, who were travelling in the vehicle. Police seized the heroin and arrested the trio, identified as Irfan Iqbal Wani, son of Iqbal Wani of Ward number 7, Reasi; Shakeel Ahmed son of Abdul Latief of Panassa Reasi and Neeraj Sharma son of Mast Ram of Ward number 12 Reasi.
During preliminary investigation, it came to notice that one accused Irfan is a habitual drug peddler and was arrested by Reasi Police in last month in case FIR number 144/2021, under section 8, 21, 22 NDPS Act registered on 12th of July 2021 in Police Station Reasi.
During sustained interrogation of Irfan, he revealed about his associates involved in the ugly business of selling, purchasing and consumption of narcotics in Reasi town.
On his disclosure, teams of Reasi Police conducted further multiple raids against drug abusers accompanied by Executive Magistrate (Tehsildar Reasi) that led to the arrests of three more drug peddlers -Abid Malik son of Bashir Mohd of Chowk Chabutra Reasi, Ranjit Singh son of Bahadur Singh of Mahadev Reasi and Chandan son of Kartar Chand of Geeta Nagar Reasi.
Incriminating materials and evidences, including syringes, burnt foil papers, partially burned rolled currency notes of Rs 10 etc were recovered from their possession.
According to SSP Reasi, Shailender Singh, accused Irfan was bailed out in the case in which he was arrested five weeks earlier. Fresh appeal will be filed before the court for cancellation of his earlier bail order so that his Police custody can be taken and investigation is thoroughly done, he added.
Accused Neeraj Sharma, a door to door delivery boy of a private courier company was a most frequent visitor in every nook and corner of the Reasi. His job profile easily concealed his ugly deeds of spreading drug abuse in the city. Shakeel, who is the driver of a load carrier, ran the network amongst driver community.
