Srinagar, Aug 16: A massive fire has left a family homeless in Basant Bagh area even as the family was set to witness a marriage ceremony next month.
The fire which was caused due to an electric short-circuit has turned the residential house of Mushtaq Ahmad Sheikh into ashes and the family has been left to fend for themselves.
The officials said that the fire broke out early in the morning and the fire tenders rushed to the spot. However, the damage was done until the flames were doused by the firemen.
What has added to the miseries of the family is that two daughters of Sheikh are going to be married and for that, the families had done the required preparations.
“I got up early and there was fire and by the time the fire tenders reached here, the damage was done; there was the jewellery that I had prepared for my daughters worth Rs 15 lakh including Rs 2 lakhs cash, everything has been destroyed and we have come on the road,” Mushtaq Ahmad Sheikh said.
The family, as well as the residents, have appealed to the LG, Manoj Sinha as well as the District Administration, Srinagar to take measures so that they are helped in times of need.
