ANTF recovers huge quantity of drugs, five inter-state smugglers arrested

JAMMU, June 22: In two back to back seizures, Anti Narcotic Task Force (ANTF) J&K has recovered huge quantities of drugs and arrested five inter-state narcotics smugglers.
According to SP ANTF Vinay Sharma, on receiving a specific input regarding large quantity of psychotropic substances being smuggled from New Delhi to Jammu and Kashmir, the sleuths of Anti Narcotic Task Force (ANTF) laid nakas at various places in and around Jammu on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway and intercepted a Maruti Swift Dezire car bearing registration number DL1ZC-3148 and a truck bearing registration number PB65L-1769.
“On thorough checking, huge quantities of banned drugs were recovered which were being smuggled from New Delhi to Jammu and Kashmir. The seized consignment includes 13920 banned syrup bottles and 20160 intoxicant capsules”, SP said, adding that this was one of the biggest seizure of such drugs in recent times in Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
Four persons were arrested, who were identified as Jaspreet Singh (truck driver), son of Joginder Singh of Jandiala Tehsil Ghar Shankar District Hoshiarpur, Punjab, Gurpreet Singh, son of Charan Singh of Pind Jagatpur Tehsil Balachor District Navashar Punjab, Mandeep Bhatti (car driver), son of Harmesh Kumar of Janakpuri New Delhi and Ravi, son of Suresh of Adarsh Mohalla Mojpur, SP Vinay Sharma informed.
SP said that the modus operandi of these smugglers was to run an advance car for security clearance while the consignments were hidden in the truck which was following the car at some distance, adding that a case under relevant sections of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered and ANTF is investigating the forward and backward linkages of theses smugglers.
Meanwhile, ANTF sleuths also seized 93 kilograms of poppy straw from a Mahindra Bolero bearing registration number PB06AS-0153, SP said, adding that the consignment was being smuggled from Narwal area of District Jammu to Punjab. The driver of the Bolero identified as Jagjit Singh, son of Santokh Singh of Sri Hargovindpur Gurudaspur, Punjab has been arrested.
“A case under relevant sections of NDPS Act has been registered and further investigation is on”, SP said, adding that by these two major back to back recoveries, ANTF has busted a big inter-state drugs racket and thus has saved lives of innocent youths who would have fallen trap to the abuse of these banned substances.
