Time to focus on Rural Health Centres

Shyam Sudan
Amidst covid pandemic we have adopted various possible measures to break the chain of this deadly virus. But the second wave of Covid 19 virus is rapidly engulfing the health of people across the country. Almost entire world is suffering from the scarcity of live saving equipments and other drugs.
In our country due to rapid surge of this virus the condition is deteriorating at a vulnerable rate.Because we are dealing with the mammoth population which are in need of these life saving equipments and other drugs. With such a giant population, it is very cumbersome to provide all the facilities to the infected persons in a single go. There is acute shortage of medical oxygen supply and well furnished bed for people in our hospitals.
As a result we have seen a scenario of panic, chaos and dilemma in the minds of people. Mostly people suffer from psychological phobia for the shortage of these medical equipments in our health centres. No doubt there are large number of well equipped hospitals and other health centres in our country. But we are not prepared for such kind unprecedented and emergency situation. People are rushing towards the different hospitals for taking the benefits as early as possible. Now, different nations are giving the assurances for giving strength to our fight against this pandemic. But in this 21st century it is very vague to depend on others help and support in such emergency situation. It is very ripe time to think for our own health sector. This pandemic has given us a great lesson for our introspection and brainstorming over this issue. No doubt every year we allocate lot of budget for our health sectors, but there is an urgent need to become self reliant in health sector. There is a need to give focuss on the manufacturing of different live saving medical equipments. There is no doubt that we are the leading producers of different kinds of vaccine across the world. But for medical emergencies and other life threatening health ailments still we dependent on few hospitals of our country.
Still our rural health centres are suffering from the shortage of different medical equipments and expert health workers. Our focus is on building infrastructure in rural parts of our country. But we are forgetting to provide the well furnished medical equipments and expertise faculity in our rural areas. Recently Delhi Government has taken initiative to establish mohallah clinic. But in this time of pandemic these mohalla clinic are not giving any kind of help because of improper facilities.
Similarly our different health centres in rural areas across the country are useless because of the same reason. Not a single bed facility with proper life saving equipments is available in our rural health centres. This thing creates panic and burden for our leading hospitals in the country. If today we had better facilities in our rural health centres,we could have fought this pandemic in a more comfortable and confident way. Still nothing is uneven,if we strengthen our rural health centres, then we can fight with such kind of emergencies in a very planned and easy way.We should turn this disaster into an opportunity.
