Bed shortage in Kashmir hospitals easing out; case +vity stabilizing: Div Com

SRINAGAR, May 18: The bed shortage that was witnessed across Kashmir hospitals particularly the tertiary care hospitals, the Divisional Administration today said has eased out while stating that the Valley is also witnessing a stabilizing effect in the daily positivity rate in COVID cases.
The Divisional Commissioner, Pandurang K. Pole said that even though Kashmir records 2000-2500 positive cases per day, but the stabilizing effect has been witnessed there. “The positivity is stabilizing somewhere between 10-12 per cent for last 4-5 days which is a good sign,” he said,
About the daily deaths, Pole said that as the infection has spread and the daily deaths can see an increase or can even remain the same in days to come.
“As the infection has spread, the number of deaths in coming days might remain the same or can also witness a slight increase across Kashmir,” he said.
Concerning bed occupancy, he said that the shortage of beds at the tertiary care hospitals and the subsequent load which was observed a few days ago has now eased out.
“The number of oxygen beds has been increased at SKIMS, Soura, SMHS, JVC along with other hospitals. About the hospitals in the districts the bed occupancy there has reached 40-45 per cent as the oxygen supply system was augmented,” he said.
Pole said that they are expecting the situation to improve further in the coming days. “The difficulty that was being faced a few days ago has been eased out and the same will see more improvement in coming days. Concerning the patients at home isolation, they are being provided with the COVID kits,” he said.
About oxygen, the Government said that there has been more than a threefold increase in oxygen capacity in J&K registered since April 1, 2021. “From 15,000 LPM on April 1, installed capacity of Oxygen plants in the UT has increased to 50,000 LPM on May 17, 2021,” the Government said in a Tweet.
With regard to the situation in Kashmir, the Divisional Commissioner said that Valley has 5 oxygen manufacturing plants and nearly 20 hospitals now have oxygen generation plants up and running. “The Valley is in a comfortable position about the oxygen requirement and there is no need to panic,” he said.
Pole said that this is a time when we do not have to go into the argument and counter-argument, rather all the stakeholders have to work together to fight the pandemic. “This is a difficult time and we need to put in united efforts. We have a better administration in Kashmir and we are doing exceptional,” he said.
