JAMMU, May 11: A 300-bedded KHN (Krishna Hira Nand Memorial Hospital & Research Institute of Medical Sciences), Nagrota, near Jammu, should be converted into a dedicated Covid Health Centre.
In an urgent letter flashed to the Lt Governor of J&K UT, Manoj Sinha today, a noted social activist Braham Dutt Sharma from Channi Himmat, Jammu, pleaded that in view of the shortage of beds, ventilators and oxygen in Medical College Jammu and its associated hospitals, besides some private hospitals in and around Jammu, KHN Hospital at Nagrota should be converted into a full fledged Covid Care Health facility.
He said the second wave of Covid-19 has wrecked havoc across Jammu region. The number of deaths in Jammu are increasing every day. With limited resources available in these hospitals, exhausted every day wih the increasing number of patients, the Administration is facing tough situation to accommodate people. It is appreciable move to create 500- beded hospital with the support of DRDO at the bank of river Tawi near Bhagwati Nagar in Jammu on war footing but it seems that peak time of crisis is still to be witnessed in the region.
Sharma suggested that a complete set of Hospital and Medical College Campus (KHN) at Nagrota, near Police Station, having entire infrastructure, including hostel for 100 students, Lab, X-Ray, CT Scanner units, Ventilators, Dialysis machines, Cardiac Cath Lab, Lithotripsy etc , has been installed there and remained unutilized. This hospital can be opened for the benefit of general public under such a situation of Pandemic. This hospital could not function for the last over two decades due some internal reasons but now, it can be utilised for the public service while fighting war against Corona. He said Dr BD Sharma, Director/ CEO of the Instittuion, a native of Jammu and presently settled in USA, should be contacted for seeking emergency services for the people of Jammu during this period of crisis.
