JAMMU, May 9: To improve legal writing of budding lawyers, Aryans College of Law, Rajpura, near Chandigarh organized a webinar on ‘Legal Drafting: A Crucial Skill’.
Maheshwari Mohan, Founder, Co-Draft, Academy of Law, Chennai was the keynote speaker while Dr Anshu Kataria, Chairman, Aryans Group presided over the webinar.
Maheshwari while interacting with the students said, in legal field, one must be able to transfer thoughts to writing in a way that correctly interprets what one is thinking.
“Language is the principal tool of the law profession. Judges, lawyers, legislators and others use words to persuade, inform, advocate and argue. That’s why good writing skills are essential components of any legal practitioner’s toolbox,” she maintained.
Maheshwari further said that although mastering legal drafting takes time and practice, superior writing skills are essential to success and one can take steps to improve that.
She advised that while drafting one should remember his/her audience and organize the writing while being concise and keep using action words by avoiding passive voice and keep on editing ruthlessly.
