People protest at various places against power failure, block road

JAMMU, May 30: The irate people staged a demonstrations at different places in protest against the erratic power supply in the areas of Tope, Paloura, Subash Nagar, Muthi, Barnai and Patoli Brahmana.
The protestors raising slogans against the PDD and the Government alleged that Jammu has been facing worst ever power crisis for over a month now and the PDD was sleeping over the issue.
A large number of protestors from the localities of Subash Nagar , Tope, Paloura and other adjoining areas assembled at Receiving Station Shanti Nagar this evening and held a demonstration against the power failure in the area. The demonstration was led by Ashok Singh Manhas ex corporator.
Another demonstration was held at Tope Chowk by the residents of the area and the protestors also blocked the road upto late night. They were raising slogans against the dismal performance of PDD and callousness of Government towards the people of Jammu who are experiencing the problem for years together during the Summer season.
The protest was also joined by the activists of AMCC and Kashmir Amity Council.
The protestor accused the Government of totally ignoring the Jammu, which is facing severe power crisis after the darbar move every year. Addressing the protestors Mr Manhas said though the Government is fully aware that every Summer the people are subjected to power cuts in Jammu due to increase in load but it has failed to find an everlasting solution to the problem.
They said the power cuts has added to the woes of people in these hot days when temperature ahs touched 43degree Celsius.
Another protest was held by irate people at Muthi, which among others was addressed by BJP leaders Omi Khajuria and Mukesh Sharma.
They said for last midnight people in various parts of Jammu were facing power cuts after every 10 minutes for two hours duration while in some localities there is complete black out. During the last Winter Chief Minister got disconnected power supply of his residence after the Srinagar and other parts of Kashmir Valley experienced power failure due to heavy snowfall. This prompted the PDD authorities to restore the power supply in Valley but no such action has been taken in case of Jammu they added.
Meanwhile Channi Himmat Residents Association has expressed its deep anguish over unscheduled power cuts in Channi Himmat Housing Colony. The Association in a meeting held under the leadership of V K Grover its president while warning the Government against the black outs in the area said it seems the administration is unduly testing the patience of the consumers of the area who are regularly paying their electricity dues.
It said the Department is not only indulging in breach of power agreement executed with the consumers by not ensuring uninterrupted supply to them but also causing huge loss to the state exchequer because only half of the revenue is going to the Government kitty due to 50 percent unscheduled power cuts.
The former corporator and BJP leader Sheela Handoo also expressed her concern over the power crisis and urged the authorities to take immediate steps to ensure round the clock power supply in metered areas failing which the people will come to streets.
According to an official spokesman the power supply has been affected due to CT fault at Gladni Grid Station last night. However the power supply was restored this evening after removing the fault, he added.
