30 sheep die of snow fall, 3 nomad families rescued

KATHUA, Apr 23: At least 30 sheep were died due to heavy snowfall near Chattergalla in Sarthal area of Bani Sub Division during last night while thre families were rescued.
Official sources said that some Gujjar-Bakerwal families which had moved to the higher reaches in adavance along with their live stock faced adverse weather situation at Seoj Dhar. A few families got trapped in heavy snow fall during last night near Chatter galla of Sarthal area at Kathua-Bhaderwah border in Bani Sub Division.
While nomad families managed to take shelter in abandoned `Dhoks’ but about 30 sheep were killed due to heavy snow fall. Some families managed to establish contact at Bani to seek help. A woman of nomad family was pregnant and needed immediate medical assistance for delivery.
Upon this, SDM Bani, Joginder Singh Jasrotia sent a team led by Naib Tehsildar Loang and SHO Bani along with a doctor and paramedical staff to the area. They shifted the trapped people in a BRO camp near Sarthal and provided food, shelter and Medical aid. The Army and GREF help was also sought.
DC, Kathua Rahul Yadav said the area is very remote. There was heavy snowfall during last two days. There is no communication and the area is snow bound. Yadav said he directed SDM Bani to provide every possible help to the trapped people. Shelter, Food, blankets, medical aid has been provided to these families. There was no loss of human life and the loss of live stock is being assessed by the team. Over two dozen sheep said to have been perished so far, the DC added.
