JAMMU, Apr 14: Citizens’ Forum has appealed the Lt Governor Manoj Sinha to open more vaccination centers in Jammu and Kashmir and also allow private hospitals, clinics and involve Municipal Corporators in the vaccination drive.
The Forum expressed concern over slow pace of vaccination, saying that J&K is far behind as compared to other small States of the country with the UT having only 3000 COVID vaccination centers and 34 private facilities.
“The USA have fully vaccinated 22% of its population and Israel 54 % while India has vaccinated only 1% of its huge population,” it said, adding, instead of providing vaccines to the States, Government of India has been selling it to other countries and thus creating shortage of the same in our own country.
The Forum said with shortage of vaccines, the States in India have been reverting to lockdowns to cope with the second wave of Coronavirus as the country is registering 168000 COVID positive cases per day. “In these circumstances, the people of Jammu and Kashmir are also feeling helpless,” it added.
