JAMMU, Jan 28: In an effort to build confidence and communal harmony, District Police Jammu with Civil Administration has started an initiative of ‘Peace Committee’ in Bajalta area of District Jammu.
Working day and night to remove miscommunication and bridge the gap between communities, the committee has succeeded in resolving issue which arose recently due to scuffle between few persons from different communities with active participation from police officers and concerned Magistrate.
A scuffle took place in Pargalta-Bajalta area between members of two communities over a minor issue on January 26 this year. The issue got escalated and a law and order situation was created in the area. Before the situation could become worse, police along with local administration swung into action and brought leaders of both the communities together and matter was resolved amicably.
Pursuing the idea for ensuring long term peace in the area an initiative was mooted by SSP Jammu Shridhar Patil to form ‘Peace Committee’ of prominent citizens of Pargalta and Bajalta. It has been resolved by the committee that it will meet every fortnight or as per requirement/urgency to discuss issues concerning local public and communal harmony.
It is pertinent to mention here that two FIRs have been registered in the scuffle and two persons were arrested. Two persons have been rounded up for questioning, while six persons including two police cops were injured in this incident.
