VHP demands martyr’s status for Chamail Singh

JAMMU, May 14:  Vishaw Hindu Parishad (VHP) has demanded that same status be given by State Government to Chamail Singh who was killed in Pakistani jail two months back as was given by Punjab Government to Sarbjit Singh who too met the same fate in Kot Lakhpal jail of Lahore recently.
Talking to reporters here today, VHP State president, Dr Rama Kant Dubey, made a dig at State Government for ignoring Chamail Singh totally.
He said there are reports that after the murder of Chamail Singh his corpse were disrespected by Pakistanis and his vital organs of the body also removed.
He said VHP general secretary, Dr Sham Lal Gupta, along with some other office bearers of the organization visited the residence of Chamail Singh in Pargwal and they were shocked to see the miserable condition of the family.
The family members alleged that they had met the Deputy Chief Minister, Tara Chand several times with the plea of seeking some help and assistance from the Government but except the false assurances he failed to do any thing in practical despite the fact that they are the voters of his Constituency.
Dr Dubey said that the Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah whose Party is claiming to be the champion of poor and downtrodden has got no time to visit the bereaved family to see its pathetic condition or announce some financial help by way of providing a Government job to his next kin.
He said the Omar Abdullah Government is concerned for the militants sneaking into India via Nepal border but it has no sympathy for the people who met the brutalities of Pakistanis. He said the Punjab Government has declared Sarbjit Singh as martyr but the State Government is not willing to give any thing to the family of Chamail Singh and warned that in case the State Government does not confer the honour to Chamail Singh, the Bajrang Dal and VHP will resort to agitation.
